Italy’s Moniga Porto Nautica joins newly established Balmaris marina group

Moniga Porto Nautica, one of the leading full-service marinas on Lake Garda, is now part of Balmaris, a newly established collection of boutique marinas across Europe.

Balmaris has been established by Baltisse, the investment holding of the Balcaen family, with Moniga Porto Nautica marking the first acquisition of the newly established marina group.

Balmaris has been launched with a strategy to upgrade infrastructure and elevate service standards across European marinas whilse preserving their local identity. The group is adopting a boutique, locally led operational model that retains existing marina personnel and destination character. This approach is backed by the group’s corporate resources, long-term capital capacity and a specific commitment to full-service client care delivered through high-quality boatyards.

As a family holding investing its own capital, Balmaris notes it can take a patient, partnership-driven approach, without the typical exit pressures of traditional investment funds.

Established in 2005, Moniga Porto Nautica has been developed by Laura Fadabini and Roberto Vassalli into one of the most respected marinas on Lake Garda. The marina offers 220 wet berths and 170 dry berths, and a full-service experience spanning berthing, refuelling, boat services and on-site catering, alongside an authorised dealership of Van Dutch (Cantiere del Pardo) and Cranchi yachts. According to Balmaris, the existing management will remain involved in the coming years, ensuring continuity for the marina’s clients and team.

“We built Moniga from scratch over the past 20 years, and choosing who would carry it forward was not a decision we took lightly,” says Laura Fadabini and Roberto Vassalli. “In Balmaris, we found a partner that understands and values what makes this place special, its people, its setting, and its service levels, and that has the patience and the means to take it further. We are proud to see Moniga become the first marina in the collection and are already planning further improvements in the infrastructure and services.”

Andreas Schryvers, investment manager at Baltisse, says: “As a family holding investing its own capital, we can back businesses without the deadlines of a traditional fund and give their teams the time, resources and support they need to do things properly. Moniga is exactly the kind of marina we want at the heart of Balmaris: full-service and exceptionally well run.”

Highlighting the planned strategic growth, Derek van Brussel, founder of Balmaris, comments: “Balmaris is built on a simple idea: keep what makes each marina distinctive, and add the strength of a group behind it. With exceptional service levels, Moniga sets the standard we want for the collection. It is the first of several acquisitions we intend to make in Italy and other European countries.”
