Oceanco acquires Dutch equipment manufacturer Winel

Dutch boatbuilder Oceanco has acquired Winel, a specialised Dutch marine and offshore equipment manufacturer. The move brings Winel’s engineering expertise into the group, which also includes Alewijnse, Aluship, Lateral and Mercury.

Winel produces custom-made and standardised products for the maritime sector through its businesses Staalart and Yachtsupport. Its product range includes tank vent check valves, manually operated doors and hatches, watertight sliding doors, hull doors and yacht equipment.

The company, founded in 1956, is headquartered in Assen, the Netherlands, where its main production facility is located. It also serves the commercial shipping and offshore sectors. Oceanco says Winel will continue to operate with the same team and strategic direction while serving both existing and new clients.

“Together with Gabe Newell, we are building the yachts of the future. With the addition of Winel to the Oceanco Group, we can continue working on new innovations in the field of one of the most complex components of an Oceanco yacht,” says Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco CEO.

Ake van der Vinne, Winel CEO, adds: “Our doors and hatches are known for their reliability under the harshest conditions, and the same applies to our relationship with Oceanco. Together with the other partners within the group, we will develop groundbreaking solutions for the maritime industry.”

The two companies have worked together since the late 1990s, and Winel products appear across Oceanco projects. Their first collaboration involved lifting equipment for the Oceanco yacht Al Mirqab. More recently, Winel supplied an adjustable hinge system for the hull doors on Leviathan, allowing them to remain horizontal to the deck in different sea conditions.
