Each SeaBin has the capacity to catch:
- 90,000 plastic bags per year
- 35,700 disposable cups per year
- 16,500 plastic bottle per year
- 166,500 plastic utensils per year
Performance data
The Seabin can catch an estimated 3.9 kgs of floating debris per day or 1.4 tons per year (depending on weather and debris volumes), but can cost as little as 80p a day to run. Cigarette butts are the most commonly caught item in the SeaBin.
Used by
Worldwide there are 860 SeaBins in use across multiple marinas and harbours. Most recently in the UK SeaBins have been installed at MDL Marinas’ Ocean Village Marina (in conjunction with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and DP World Southampton) and at Leicester Outdoor Pursuit Centre on the River Soar. Six SeaBins have also been installed this year at Whitehaven Marina in Cumbria – a record number of SeaBins in one location in the UK.
