Aquila Catamarans launched its first sailboat, the 50 Sail, at the Miami International Boat Show 2026.
The 50 Sail is the first sailing model in the Aquila portfolio. The sail range will also feature a 44 Sail and flagship 65 Sail, due to launch September/October 2026 and September/October 2027, respectively. The company’s expansion into the sail market aims to better cater to all generations.
Developed in collaboration with boatbuilder’s long-standing design partner JnJ Design, the 50 Sail features bridge-to-bow stairs for easy movement from flybridge to the forward bow cockpit. With clean, modern lines throughout, the 50 Sail features a fixed forward cockpit creating a social zone, with a large bow seating area. There is also a well-appointed saloon and galley.

Aquila’s new sailboat comes in a four, five, or six-cabin configuration. Each cabin maintains privacy with a private entrance and ensuite facilities with walk-in showers.
The owner’s cabin offers a spacious, private retreat with large hull-side windows.
Propulsion options include diesel engines or hybrid ocean drive, providing silent electric propulsion with diesel power available when conditions demand it.
Jean Raas, chief product officer and CEO of Aquila USA, says: “Introducing our sail range was a natural evolution for Aquila and marks an exciting new chapter in our journey as a global boat manufacturer. Our team brings decades of hands-on sailing knowledge and industry experience, which we’ve drawn upon to enter the sailing market with intention and precision. The 50 Sail embodies this expertise.”
The company’s expansion into the sailing segment echoes the Aquila leadership team’s own interests. Lex Raas, co-founder, started racing sailboats when he was four years old and has sailed in many international sailing events. His sons, Jean Raas, chief product officer and CEO/Aquila USA, and Alain Raas, global brand director, have continued the sailing legacy. Jean was a member of the USA Sailing team for three years. While Alain sailed competitively from an early age and has completed numerous long-distance sailings, including trans-Pacific crossings.
