Germán and Mani Frers form production yacht design partnership

Argentinian naval architects Germán Frers and his son Mani Frers have formed a design office partnership focused on production sailing yachts.

The arrangement formalises a working relationship that has seen the two designers collaborate on numerous projects and design studies in recent decades.

The partnership focuses on the development of future production yacht ranges for established boating brands. Early-stage design work is already underway, with the designers saying they are ‘applying shared principles’ to several models now in development.

Both designers will continue to run their independent practices alongside the partnership. These studios remain focused on custom sailing yachts, superyachts and engineering-led projects for private clients.

For Mani Frers, current work includes the 85m New World sloop under construction at Royal Huisman, along with several other projects in development.

“This collaboration is focused on production yacht design,” says Mani. “It allows us to work together in an area where long-term planning and development are essential, while each of us continues our independent work with the same focus and commitment as always.”

Germán adds: “I am fortunate to be able to be selective about the projects I take on, focusing on those where I can bring together the best of everything I have learned so far

“Working more closely with Mani deepens a dialogue that is already stimulating and demanding, and opens new possibilities where experience and perspective build on each other.”

For more than 40 years, Germán Frers has developed the naval architecture for a range of production sailing and racing yachts. Longstanding collaborations include work with Hallberg-Rassy, Nautor Swan, and, more recently, Sirena Yachts. He worked on the 47.4-metre Royal Huisman sailing yacht Hyperion, which, when launched in 1997, was the largest sloop ever made.
