Boat insurer Haven Knox-Johnston has announced the programme for its 2026 webinar series, From The Helm. The series is free to attend and will consist of four expert-led sessions delivered online.
The 2026 programme follows earlier editions of the webinar series and continues the company’s focus on providing practical information for boat owners, cruising sailors and dinghy sailors. The sessions are designed to address a range of boating-related topics and include opportunities for attendees to ask questions.
The programme brings together sailors and subject matter experts who will share first-hand experience on destinations, boat preparation and different cruising approaches. Each webinar includes practical guidance and a live question-and-answer segment.
The first session, Single-handed ocean crossing – learnings from an everyday sailor, is organised in partnership with the Cruising Association. In this webinar, Cruising Association member Martin Sutcliffe discusses his solo voyage to the Azores and return. The session focuses on lessons learned from long-distance single-handed sailing, including preparation, decision-making and outcomes from the journey. Insurance for the voyage was arranged by Haven Knox-Johnston Specialist.
The webinar takes place on Thursday 12 February at 7.30pm GMT. Register for the webinar online.
The second session, Cruising the Isles of Scilly, is also delivered in partnership with the Cruising Association. Robin Baron, president of the Cruising Association and south west England regional editor for the Cruising Almanac, outlines practical considerations for sailors planning a visit to the Isles of Scilly. Topics include passage planning, navigation, preparation and cruising between the islands.
This webinar is scheduled for Tuesday 10 March at 7.30pm GMT. Register for the webinar online.
The third webinar, Wayfarer Cruising, features experienced Wayfarer sailor Jonathan Ferguson. He explains how multi-day cruising can be undertaken in a 16ft open dinghy, covering aspects such as boat setup, storage, clothing, victualling and sleeping aboard.
This session takes place on Thursday 19 March at 7.30pm GMT. Register for the webinar online.
The fourth session, Insurance isn’t a breakdown policy – how to maintain your boat, is delivered by Ben Sutcliffe-Davies. Drawing on more than 45 years of experience in the marine industry, including boat building and marine surveying, he discusses maintenance expectations for boat owners and common reasons for rejected insurance claims.
The final webinar is available on demand from late February.
Paul Knox-Johnston, sales and marketing manager at Haven Knox-Johnston, says: “Our webinar programme has become a key method for us to support the boating community. We simply could not deliver these sessions without the generosity and expertise of those who partner with us. By working with experienced sailors and trusted experts, we aim to provide practical, honest advice that helps boat owners make the most of their time on the water, whatever their ambitions.”
All webinars are free to attend and open to boat owners and sailors of all experience levels. Each session will be recorded and made available via the Haven Knox-Johnston YouTube channel. Those who are registered for the webinars but are unable to attend live will be sent a link to the recording after the event.
