Legacy Harbour Marina set for May comeback after $15m Hurricane Ian overhaul

Legacy Harbour Marina is reopening its doors to boaters this May, marking the end of a year-long rebuild after Hurricane Ian devastated the downtown Fort Myers waterfront facility in 2022.

The 13-acre Caloosahatchee River marina in southwest Florida has undergone a $15 million redevelopment and is now preparing to welcome vessels back to its 131 modernised slips from 1 May 2026.

The rebuild projects focused on upgraded dock infrastructure, including a new wave attenuation system supplied by Bellingham Marine. The company’s Unifloat concrete dock system has been installed on 21-metre steel piles, designed to improve resilience against Florida’s coastal conditions and future storm events.

Interior slips feature aluminum-frame dock systems with synthetic decking. Each berth is fully equipped with potable water, in-slip pump-out, fire suppression, fiberglass dock boxes, and both single- and three-phase power connections.

The marina’s 131 berths will accommodate vessels ranging from 12 to 46 metres, catering to a range of recreational and liveaboard boaters.

Redevelopment works began in early 2025 and also include the harbormaster building, modernised utilities, and structural enhancements across the site. The facility will also roll out an updated hurricane preparedness and response plan – a nod to the conditions that forced the rebuild and destruction caused by Hurricane Ian.

Legacy Harbour offers Gulf of Mexico access and is within easy walking distance of Fort Myers’ River District. Rick Budd, CEO of marina owner AIRN Management, comments: “This marina has long served as a homeport for boaters traveling Florida’s west coast. The May 2026 reopening represents a significant reinvestment in Fort Myers’ waterfront and a long-term commitment to the local boating community.”

Day-to-day operations will be handled by Coastal Marina Management, which has been appointed as the marina’s management partner. The company will oversee dock staff, customer service, and ongoing facility management.

Reservations are being managed through the Dockwa booking platform, and those looking to secure a slip ahead of the official opening can join the waitlist, with formal reservations set to launch after an official opening date is released. Transient berths will also be available upon reopening, subject to annual and monthly occupancy.
