Spirit Yachts to host recruitment open day

British modern classic yacht builder Spirit Yachts will hold its biannual recruitment open day at its yard in Ipswich, Suffolk, on Friday 15 May.

Forming part of the company’s drive to recruit experienced boatbuilders and establish a pipeline of talent for the future, applicants will have a tour of the yard and see the design and build process in situ.

Spirit Yachts’ managing director, Karen Underwood, comments: “With a yard full of projects in build and significant client interest ahead of the launch of our first P50 motor yacht this summer, we are expanding our talented team. In particular, we are looking for experienced boatbuilders and people who have a passion for working with wood.”

The recruitment open day will be held from 10am to 4pm on Friday 15 May 2026. Attendance is by appointment only, and interested attendees can sign up for the open day via email.

Underwood adds: “While the marine industry skills shortage shows no signs of abating, we held two recruitment days last year, resulting in full-time employment for seven new team members.”

“These events give us the opportunity to find new talent, and for potential employees to have a look around, get to know us, and see if Spirit Yachts could be the next chapter in their career.”

Spirit Yachts changed ownership in 2023, which was a huge transition after 30 years of being owned and managed by one of its founders, Sean McMillan.

Current projects in build at Spirit Yachts include an R53 sailing yacht, a C78 cruising yacht, and two new P50 motor yachts – a model range launched in 2025. The new P50s in build are one of each variant, the Sport and the Coupé. The first P50 Sport launches this summer, following the launch of a custom reimagination of a Q Class yacht.
