Dutch submersible manufacturer U-Boat Worx has completed sea trials of its Super Sub. According to the firm, it is the fastest and most technically advanced private submarine ever built, and delivery to its first client is confirmed within weeks.
The milestone follows a comprehensive validation programme off the coast of Curaçao, where the Super Sub earned full DNV safety certification after extensive testing of propulsion, handling, avionics-style controls and onboard safety systems under real operational conditions.
Powered by 100kW of horizontal thrust, the Super Sub can achieve a top speed of nine knots, unmatched by any privately owned submersible. Its capability to navigate dynamic inclines and descents of up to 45 degrees enables pilots to explore complex underwater topography, including reef walls, wrecks and drop-offs.
Safety and precision were key priorities during the sea trials. The sub’s hyper-accurate sonar continuously scans the seabed and autonomously adjusts trajectory, while redundant life support and control systems were rigorously tested throughout.

With an operational depth of 300 metres and a range of up to 10 nautical miles, Super Sub offers exploratory capability within a single dive window. Large-area reconnaissance, surveying reef systems, mapping wrecks or close-up inspection is now said to have become practical.
Inside the acrylic pressure hull, panoramic visibility and an ergonomic cockpit layout place the pilot and passengers at the center of an uninterruped ocean view. Trials also generated a comprehensive library of photography and cinematic video, highlighting the submersible’s capabilities.

U-Boat Worx emphasises that the “Super Sub stands not simply as a new model in a product portfolio, but as a redefinition of underwater mobility.” Delivery to the first client is confirmed for the coming weeks, and final preparation for handover is underway.
