Ferrari reveals livery of Hypersail ocean racer

Ferrari has presented the livery of its Hypersail project, a 100ft flying ocean monohull developed with a focus on aerodynamics, during Milan Design Week 2026.

The Hypersail project was first announced in January 2024 with more details then released by Ferrarri in June 2025. The vessel, inspired by Ferrari’s Hypercar, is being designed by naval architect Guillaume Verdier and led by team principal Giovanni Soldini, an experienced offshore sailor.

Other contributors include the Ferrari Tech Team, guided by Matteo Lanzavecchia and Marco Guglielmo Ribigini, and the Ferrari Design Studio led by Flavio Manzoni.

The Ferrari Design Studio worked alongside Ferrari engineering teams and Verdier to interpret technical requirements within the vessel’s external design. The resulting silhouette references the proportions of the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2. Elements of the coachroof design reference graphic features that are associated with the Ferrari 499P Hypercar.

The firm says the vessel’s deck surfaces and coachroof structure were developed to meet technical requirements for efficiency, crew movement, aerodynamic behaviour and structural integration.

Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari’s chief design officer, says: “Hypersail represented an unexpected opportunity for the Ferrari Design Studio; a challenging objective due to its complexity, which allowed us to extend our creative research into a context different from our usual one.

“In reality, the Design Studio is not new to this kind of endeavour. In the past, the experience gained in racing car projects, one of the most technologically advanced sectors, has encouraged exploration into more complex fields, allowing us to test ourselves and expand our expertise.”

Solar panels are integrated into the yacht deck and hull sides. Ferrari says their placement follows analysis of expected solar exposure during offshore navigation. The panels are designed to be walkable and include a surface grip treatment that allows the crew to move across the deck, with technical fastening systems and clips securing the panels within the deck structure.

“Hypersail is a vessel unique in scale and technology, engineered to deliver peak performance within an environment as singular and unpredictable as the ocean,” says Matteo Lanzavecchia, head of vehicle engineering at Ferrari and chief technology officer of Hypersail.

“This is achieved through its core concept: foiling, made possible by a sophisticated control system, leveraging the expertise gained from our automotive developments, and powered by energy recovered from renewable sources such as wind, solar, and motion.”

Lanzavecchia adds:

“The strategic choice of a monohull arises from the synergy between maximum hydrodynamic and aerodynamic efficiency. Throughout every design phase, the collaboration with the Design Studio allowed us to accentuate and refine Hypersail’s forms and features, establishing it as a definitive benchmark of design and innovation.”

Livery design and materials

The vessel’s exterior livery combines exposed carbon fibre with Ferrari’s Giallo Fly colour. Carbon fibre forms the primary hull structure. Its grey tone provides the base for a colour variant the firm is calling Grigio Hypersail.

The yellow livery colour references Giallo Fly, historically associated with Ferrari vehicles. The colour later appeared on several road cars, including the Ferrari 275 GTB.

Within the Hypersail project, the Giallo Fly name also reflects the vessel’s foiling concept. The colour appears across the cabin structure, foil elements and hull graphics. The visual treatment recalls earlier Ferrari liveries, including the Ferrari 512 BB.

Additional design references include styling cues inspired by the LaFerrari and the Ferrari F80. The sail carries a Ferrari logo featuring the elongated “F” graphic used in recent Ferrari branding.

Milan Design Week 2026 installation

During Milan Design Week 2026, from 22 to 26 April, the Hypersail project is being presented through an exhibition at the Ferrari Flagship Store in Milan, Italy. The display reveals further details behind the design and engineering process of the vessel.

The exhibition also includes a sculpture titled the ‘Hypersail lighthouse-installation‘. The structure was created by the Ferrari Design Studio and is located on the Highline Milano terrace overlooking Piazza del Duomo.
