Heesen unveils 72m Project Ananda ahead of 2030 delivery

Heesen Yachts has unveiled YN 21872 Project Ananda, a 72m superyacht developed with Netherlands-based studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design.

The project is the first vessel announced under the shipyard’s revised strategic direction and is being offered as a speculation-built Smart Custom platform with scope for owner customisation.

The news comes shortly after Heesen revealed the appointment of superyacht captain Mike Rouse as the firm’s strategic advisor, tasked with bridging the gap between operational reality and advanced yacht engineering.

Project Ananda features a steel hull and hybrid propulsion system

Named after the Sanskrit word for “inner joy”, Project Ananda has been designed around flexibility, privacy and wellbeing. The yacht combines Heesen’s engineering with exterior styling by Sinot. Work between the two teams began early in the design process to ensure the original vision could be translated into the final build without major changes.

Built on a steel hull, the yacht features a hybrid propulsion system comprising twin MTU engines and PTI/PTO gearboxes. Tank testing carried out at the University of Southampton’s Wolfson Unit validated resistance, trim, heave and wave response. Following testing, Heesen projects a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots.

Guest arrival has been integrated into the overall layout. An amidships shell door opens onto a docking platform connected directly to a central glass elevator, providing access to accommodation areas without passing through the yacht’s principal social spaces.

The general arrangement spans five decks and has been developed to offer a high level of adaptability. Owners can choose between two configurations for the owner’s deck, with one favouring a forward-facing private arrangement and the other centred on an aft-focused deck experience.

The foredeck master suite is conceived as an apartment-style space with a private office and wide panoramic views. A second master suite on the bridge deck offers similar accommodation, providing additional flexibility for charter operations or extended family use.

Interior construction will be completed by Heesen Interiors

Interior construction will be undertaken by Heesen Interiors in Winterswijk, the Netherlands. One of the central design features is a travertine-finished pool area linked directly to a Teppanyaki-style bar in the main lounge.

Deck areas intended for guests have been designed without visible mooring equipment, allowing the space to be used for a variety of purposes.

Design, naval architecture and tank testing have now been completed. Keel laying is scheduled for November 2026, with delivery planned for 2030.
