Maxim Yachts leans into charter demand in a more confident market

Rising confidence and a shift toward more flexible boating models are reshaping the entry-level and day boat segments, with Maxim Yachts positioning itself to capitalise on what it sees as a market transition towards charter. Returning to the Palma International Boat Show later this month, the company is targeting distribution growth and charter partnerships as key drivers for the season ahead.

“Our previous experience at the Palma International Boat Show was very positive,” says Marc Forné, sales manager at Maxim Yachts (a Barcelona-based shipyard which specialises in high-performance, open walkaround weekenders), “particularly in terms of opportunities for charter companies and distribution agreements, which are key drivers for our business growth.” The show’s timing and audience profile are central to its appeal: “Palma is a strategic location that brings together a high-quality international audience at the start of the Mediterranean season.”

Palma offers key platform for distribution and summer season sales

For Maxim Yachts, Palma’s position just ahead of peak summer demand creates a valuable commercial window. “As the show takes place just before the summer season, we see it as an ideal moment for clients to find their vessel for the summer season,” Forné explains. However, this opportunity sits within a more uncertain global backdrop. “From a geopolitical perspective, the current situation is complex and will largely depend on the evolution of the war in Iran.”

Despite that uncertainty, market signals are strengthening – particularly in the charter market. “The market appears more dynamic compared to last year’s.

“Recent transactions show that clients are increasingly confident in chartering boats, particularly in the day boat segment.”

This behavioural shift is proving resilient even in a volatile environment. “Despite political and economic uncertainties, there is a clear trend toward charter, with clients focused on enjoying the summer season.”

Flexibility and lifestyle reshape buyer priorities

That focus on experience over ownership is feeding into broader product and business model evolution. “We expect strong interest in charter opportunities, flexible ownership models, and the growing demand for versatile, easy-to-use vessels,” Forné notes. “The emphasis is increasingly on accessibility and usability, aligning with changing customer expectations across the leisure marine sector.

“We are significantly more positive than we were last year.”

Charter demand drives renewed confidence in the day boat segment

Forné continues: “The market is clearly gaining momentum, and we believe we are witnessing a transformation rather than simply a recovery.” That transformation is being shaped by a different type of buyer. “Demand is evolving, with clients showing increased interest in practical, lifestyle-oriented boats, which aligns very well with our offering.”

As Palma approaches, Maxim Yachts is also using the event to reinforce its market presence and engage directly with customers and partners. “We are very pleased to be exhibiting once again at the Palma International Boat Show. It remains one of the most important events in the Mediterranean boating calendar.”

With charter demand rising, clients prioritising flexibility, and confidence returning to the market, Maxim Yachts’ Palma strategy reflects a sector that is not just recovering – but actively redefining how, and why, people get on the water.

Last September, Forné told MIN that the company was looking at its production processes as part of its ecological transition. Within this, it implemented a vacuum infusion system in the manufacture of its boats. This process enables Maxim Yachts to produce vessels with significantly lower emissions, while also ensuring a safer working environment and a higher-quality finished product. “The boats produced this way are lighter for the same amount of fibre and resin, which translates into better performance, greater durability, and improved fuel efficiency – ultimately reducing CO₂ emissions.”
