Sanlorenzo partners with BYD on next-gen yacht batteries

Sanlorenzo has entered into a strategic partnership with China’s BYD Energy Storage to support research into energy storage and electrification technologies for the yachting sector. Under the agreement, BYD Energy Storage becomes Sanlorenzo’s technology and battery supplier as part of a long-term collaboration focused on reducing the environmental impact of its yachts.

The partnership includes a research and development programme that will explore how advanced battery systems and energy management technologies could be applied to future yachts.

Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo, says: “Innovation and sustainability are inseparable for Sanlorenzo. Partnering with a global technology leader such as BYD Energy Storage represents another important step in our long-term vision to shape a more responsible and technologically advanced future for yachting.

“Following our renewed commitment to advancing sustainable technologies announced during Venice Climate Week, this latest collaboration allows us to explore new possibilities in energy storage and electrification while continuing to develop solutions capable of reducing the environmental impact of yachts on the water.”

Tony Jiang, director of BYD Marine Battery Product Line, adds: “Sanlorenzo represents one of the most forward-thinking and design-led brands in the global yachting industry. We are proud to support their sustainability vision through our advanced battery technologies and look forward to collaborating on future innovation opportunities within the maritime sector.”

BYD Energy Storage develops lithium iron phosphate battery systems and energy storage technologies for electrification applications in industry. As part of the collaboration, the companies will examine how battery systems and energy management technologies could be integrated into future yacht platforms.

The partnership is part of Sanlorenzo’s Road to 2030 sustainability programme, which includes projects involving green methanol, hydrogen production using reformer systems, hybrid propulsion technologies and more.
