World Boating Day 2026 records participation across 28 countries

World Boating Day 2026 has concluded with 143 events being held across 28 countries, involving shipyards, marinas, museums and waterfront destinations.

The initiative launched in 2024 as a non-profit initiative intended to improve understanding of the leisure boating sector through local open days and public events.

World Boating Day took place on Saturday 23 May 2026, with coordinated open houses, shipyard tours and nautical activities running throughout the surrounding week of May 18-24.

The third edition of the annual initiative brought together companies, educational organisations, families, students and first-time visitors through programmes centred on boating, yacht design, sustainability and maritime careers.

This year’s programme featured open-access events and practical experiences linked to design, craftsmanship and activity on the water.

E-WERF and Marée Circle opened their shipyard to visitors, presenting electric propulsion systems and conversion projects involving existing boats.

In the United States, the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum partnered with Sail to Shelter to host practical activities introducing families and younger visitors to boating culture.

At Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, events focused on boating education and introductory sessions covering boating basics.

The full list of 2026 events is available through the World Boating Day website.

Speaking on this year’s edition, Dilan Sarac, executive director of The Superyacht Life Foundation, says: “World Boating Day is about opening up the world of boating to anyone with a connection to the water, whether through work, lifestyle or curiosity. Each year we see more communities, partners and individuals come together, and that shared energy is what drives this movement forward.”

Organisers confirm that preparations for the 2027 edition are already underway, with additional regions and partners expected to join the programme.
